So, my Iowa license plates expire tonight at midnight. I had no choice, I had to register Crusty here in Illinois.
New Illinois Plates and Title cost $226.00
Cool! I budgeted $273 for some reason.
Then the Crook County penalty hit.
An additional $115 fee and an odd $15 surcharge just because.
A total of $356 for title and plates on a 1995 F150 that I paid $800 for.
Jeez!
Thankfully this truck has been as reliable as my Labrador!

Ouch. Plates in Louisiana are pretty cheap. Insurance is awful and our roads are terrible. Everything is a trade off I suppose.

Illinois roads are crap too. No trade off.

Elections have consequences...nothing like half a century of One Party Rule. Chicago just passed another 600 million in property taxes (already up 50% in 5 years). But this time taxpayers won’t see one penny of benefit since it’s going to patronage job pensions.

But the Dems are supposed to represent the working man. Right?
I get it. This is my mistake. I had a choice to struggle in Iowa or struggle in Illinois and I thought Illinois was the better choice.
I was soohooo wrong.

we cut our plate fees way back several years ago up in WA, but now we can’t pay for schools or roads...

Illinois is giving IOUs to Lottery winners. Schools aren’t getting money, contractors aren’t getting paid, the only people that seem to be getting paid are the Crews that are rebuilding the Tollways. Illinois is more messed up than what’s being reported. As usual.

$115 for the pleasure of living in Cook Co? Add another to the giant list of reasons not to ever move to Cook Co.

To register that truck in most counties in Wisconsin would’ve been $197.50 - $69.50 for title, $44 sales tax, $84 for Class B (6000lb. GVWR) truck plates.

You could come struggle in Wisconsin with friends!

Gaaa!
I’ve been trying. The bad part of my Resume is Illinois. So close but so far away.

I’m 2 hours from Beloit, 4 hrs. from Chicago, so living in my area probably wouldn’t help you. But you can get a 3 bed 1.5 bath 2100 sq. ft. house with a 2 car garage and blacktop driveway near where I live for $65,000.

Wait a sec, are you going for an Oppo Commune?
I’d move in a heartbeat if I had a job prospect up there.

Are you saying an Oppo Trike Commune would be such a bad thing?

Hell no!
I’d be on board with that.

In Minny that would likely be less than $100 though it varies from county to county. But I don’t remember for sure. it’s been a while since I had to register.

And here I was bitching about paying $100 for titling license plate and late fees.

Well they need the money to keep the roads and bridges in mint condition!
